Grab (or Hand) rails can be mounted directly to walls in six foot or shorter lengths. These are attached with rail ends at the corners and further supported by cast aluminum brackets as shown here.

This illustration shows a very common use of grab rails mounted to the side of regular 42" railing for disability access. The 42" high rail is of the Panel / Post variety with panels of six foot or less in length. The Grab Rail is then mounted 36" above the ground and affixed to every post and can be made in continuous lengths over 6 feet and up to 21 feet..

Grab Rails most often use the Madison Top Rail style, but both the Franklin and Jefferson are suitable as well.
